When Antonio Mazzarese moved to the United States from Italy in 1969, he brought a three-generation heritage of fine jewelry design and retailing. Like his grandfather and great grandfather, Tony became a skilled craftsman, well-schooled in the art of the jeweler's bench. His specialty was diamond setting, a rare skill today. Tony began his career in Tunisia before moving to Rome where he and his brothers established a laboratory on the fashionable Via Condotti, just above the original Gucci store. By then, the family's reputation for custom design and craftsmanship had gained notice in Europe, Asia and North Africa, earning Mazzarese a commission by the French government and work for prestigious clients.
Today, Mazzarese Fine Jewelry is very much a family business in Kansas City as well as in Italy where one of Tony's brothers continues to operate a shop. Tosca, a native of Florence, Italy, has worked side by side with Tony since they met and married in Kansas City.
Mark
and
his
sister,
Veronica, the fourth generation to carry on the Mazzarese family name in fine jewelry
have literally grown up in the business. As
children, Tosca brought
them
to the store where
they would play in a back room. As soon as
Mark
was old enough, he wanted to be on the sales floor helping customers. Mark joined the company full time upon graduating from the University of Kansas in 1995.
Finally,
in
2002,
after
spending
time
as
a
representative
for
the
manufacturing
side
of
the
industry,
Veronica,
the
youngest
of
the
Mazzarese
family,
joined
Mazzarese
Jewelry
bringing
the
entire
family
under
one
roof.
